Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using PDFEditly.

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and PDFEditly (“PDFEditly”, “we”, “us” or “our”), operated by Irfan Ullah Baig from Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. They govern your access to and use of the website at pdfeditly.com, our online PDF tools, our blog and guides, and the PDFEditly Android app (together, the “Service”).

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these Terms for that organization, and “you” includes that organization.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service, or the minimum age required in your country to consent to online services if that is higher (for example, 16 in some countries in the European Economic Area). If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.

3. The Service

PDFEditly provides free, browser-based tools to edit, sign, annotate, merge, split, compress, convert, organize, watermark and password-protect PDF files, along with articles and guides about working with documents.

  • Local processing. The tools process your files on your own device inside your web browser. Your documents are not uploaded to our servers.
  • No account required. The tools can be used without registration.
  • Free of charge. The tools are currently free to use and are supported by advertising on our blog and guide pages and by voluntary donations. We may introduce optional paid features in the future; if we do, they will be clearly identified and will not be charged without your agreement.

4. License to use the Service

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, worldwide, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for personal or business purposes. This license does not allow you to:

  • Copy, resell, sublicense or rent the Service, or offer it as part of another service.
  • Frame or mirror the Service, or make it available from another website or app in a way that suggests it is yours.
  • Copy or republish our articles, guides, design, logos or other content except as permitted by law (for example, short quotations with attribution and a link).

Some components of the Service are open-source software licensed under their own terms. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under those licenses.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. You must not:

  • Process files you do not have the right to use, copy or modify.
  • Use the Service to create, edit or distribute forged, fraudulent or deceptive documents, including forged signatures, falsified official records, fake invoices or counterfeit certificates.
  • Remove or circumvent copyright protection, digital rights management or document security that you are not authorized to remove.
  • Use the Service to infringe intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights, or to process unlawful, defamatory, harassing or exploitative content, including any content that sexually exploits minors.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, or introduce malware.
  • Use bots, scrapers or automated means to access the Service in a way that places an unreasonable load on it, other than standard search engine crawling permitted by our robots.txt file.
  • Click on advertisements, or encourage others to click on them, for any reason other than genuine interest, or otherwise generate invalid ad impressions or clicks.
  • Reverse-engineer the Service except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
  • Violate any applicable law or regulation, or help anyone else do so.

6. Your files and content

You keep all rights to the documents and images you process with the Service (“Your Content”). We do not claim ownership of Your Content, and because processing happens on your device, we do not receive, access, store or use it.

You are solely responsible for Your Content, for having the rights needed to process it, and for the documents you create and share. Keep copies of your original files: edits such as flattening, compression, redaction and encryption cannot always be reversed, and closing your browser tab discards unsaved work.

If you send us information through the contact form or by email, you allow us to use it to reply to you and to operate the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Accuracy of results and your responsibilities

We work hard to make the tools reliable, but you should check every output before relying on it:

  • Conversion and OCR. Converting PDFs to Word, Excel, text or images, and recognizing text in scanned documents, may not reproduce every layout, font, table or character exactly. Proofread names, numbers, dates and amounts.
  • Compression. Compression may reduce image quality and can convert pages to images, which makes text non-selectable. Keep the original file.
  • Passwords. We never receive the passwords you use to protect PDFs and cannot recover them. If you lose a password, the protected file may become permanently inaccessible.
  • Signatures. Signatures added with the editor are visual electronic signatures. They are not certificate-based digital signatures. Whether a document signed this way is legally valid depends on the law and the requirements of the recipient; check before using it for important agreements.
  • Not professional advice. Our blog posts and guides are general information, not legal, financial, security or other professional advice.

8. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, logos, the PDFEditly name and our articles, is owned by PDFEditly or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Except for the license in section 4, these Terms do not give you any rights to our intellectual property. You may not use the PDFEditly name or logo in a way that suggests endorsement without our written permission.

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please contact us with a description of the work, where it appears on the Service, your contact details, and a statement that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We will review and respond to valid notices.

9. Advertising, third-party services and links

The Service displays advertisements served by Google AdSense and its partners on our blog and guide pages. Ads are provided by third parties, and we are not responsible for the products, services or claims they advertise. Your dealings with advertisers are solely between you and the advertiser. How advertising cookies are used, and how to opt out of personalized ads, is explained in our Privacy Policy.

The Service relies on third-party services such as hosting, analytics, email delivery and content delivery networks, and may link to websites we do not control. We are not responsible for third-party websites, services or content, and your use of them is governed by their own terms and policies.

10. Voluntary support and donations

You can choose to support the project through Buy Me a Coffee. Contributions are voluntary, are processed by Buy Me a Coffee under its own terms, and do not purchase any product, service level or additional features unless stated otherwise at the time. Questions about a payment should be directed to Buy Me a Coffee or to us through our Contact page.

11. Feedback

If you send us ideas, suggestions or bug reports, you allow us to use them to improve the Service without any obligation to you. We appreciate every report.

12. Availability and changes to the Service

We may add, change or remove features, limit usage, or suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. The Service may be temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, updates, network problems or events beyond our control. Some features depend on your browser, device memory and internet connection, and may not work on every device.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT ANY OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR PURPOSE.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.

14. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PDFEDITLY AND ITS OPERATOR, CONTRIBUTORS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, DOCUMENTS, PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

BECAUSE THE TOOLS ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100).

These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

15. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless PDFEditly and its operator from any claims, damages, losses and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

16. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or block access to the Service for anyone who violates these Terms, misuses the Service or creates risk or legal exposure for us or others. Sections that by their nature should continue — including sections 6 to 8 and 13 to 18 — survive termination.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any formal proceeding, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally; most concerns can be settled this way. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally within 30 days, it will be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Pakistan. If you are a consumer, you also keep any right under the law of your country of residence to bring proceedings in your local courts and to rely on mandatory consumer protections.

18. General terms

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
  • Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest of these Terms remain in effect, and the provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
  • App stores. If you use the Android app downloaded from Google Play, Google Play’s terms also apply to your download and use of the app. Google is not responsible for the app or these Terms.
  • Language. These Terms are written in English. Any translation is for convenience, and the English version controls.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice on the site. Changes apply from the date they are posted. If you continue to use the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, stop using the Service.
