Fixing sideways and upside-down PDF pages
Rotated pages are one of the most common problems with scanned documents and phone captures. Reading a sideways page means turning your head or your screen, and some upload portals reject documents that are not upright.
Rotating all or some pages
Type all to rotate every page, or list page numbers separated by commas, such as 1, 3, to rotate only those pages. Choose 90° clockwise for pages turned to the left, 270° clockwise for pages turned to the right, and 180° for pages that are upside down.
Lossless rotation
Rotation changes the page's orientation setting in the PDF rather than re-drawing the page, so nothing is re-compressed. Text stays selectable, images keep their quality and the file size stays almost exactly the same.
Rotation versus orientation
Rotating a page turns its content. If a document mixes portrait and landscape pages on purpose — for example, wide tables in a report — those pages are already correct and only look rotated in some viewers. Rotate only pages whose content is actually sideways.
Tips
- Rotate pages before merging, so the final document is consistent.
- Use Reorder Pages to rotate individual pages while viewing thumbnails.
- If many scans come out sideways, check your scanner's orientation setting.
